Industrial & agricultural project by S&T RAI Services

Industrial & agricultural

Shops, barns, machine sheds, Quonsets and light industrial structures across rural Manitoba.

  • Closed-cell foam on steel and wood framing
  • Condensation and frost control in unheated shops
  • Tank, pipe and duct insulation
  • Vapour-tight assemblies for wash bays and livestock barns

Closed-cell vs open-cell vs blown-in

R-value is resistance to heat flow per inch — higher is better, but the right product depends on the assembly, the moisture risk and the space you have.

Closed-cell foam

R-6 to R-7 per inch

Best for: Basements, crawlspaces, rim joists, steel buildings, anywhere moisture is a concern

  • Acts as insulation, air barrier and vapour retarder in one pass
  • Rigid and adds structural stiffness
  • Best choice for Manitoba below-grade and unheated spaces

Open-cell foam

R-3.6 to R-4 per inch

Best for: Interior walls, attics with generous depth, sound-sensitive rooms

  • Softer, more affordable per board foot
  • Excellent sound dampening between rooms
  • Needs a separate vapour strategy in cold-climate assemblies

Blown-in & batt top-ups

R-3.1 to R-3.7 per inch

Best for: Open attics where budget matters more than air sealing

  • Cost-effective way to reach R-60 attic targets
  • Pairs well with foam air sealing at penetrations
  • Fast install with minimal disruption
